This program is designed for

    • Postpartum women
    • Breast feeding women
    • Infants
    • Children up to 5 years

Additionally, participants must meet USDA income standards and be seen at the WIC site before eligibility can be determined.  Re-evaluation is required for continued participation.
According to the guidelines WIC is not a welfare program, but a program designed to help famillies give their children get the best nutritional start.

Eligibility participants are issued food coupons which can be used at WIC approved stores.  These coupons are for specified foods approved through the WIC program.

Nutrition education classes are provided to participants on a variety of topics including iron-rich foods, shopping on a limited budget, snack foods for children and more.

In additiion, participants can be linked to other important resources offered by the health department such as Lamaze, breastfeeding support, immunizations, a diabetes program, developmental screening, and more.  Participants can also learn about the help provided by other social service agencies, community agencies, and health care professionals including physicians and dentists.
