For more than 25 years the WIC program has been
helping Women, Infants, and Children get the foods they need for proper
growth and development. It provides nutrition education and counseling,
nutritious foods at no cost, and linkages to other health and social service
agencies.

standards and be seen at the WIC site before eligibility can be determined.

program, but a program designed to help famillies give their children get
the best nutritional start.

Eligibility participants are issued food coupons
which can be used at WIC approved stores. These coupons are for specified
foods approved through the WIC program.
Nutrition education classes are provided to
participants on a variety of topics including iron-rich foods, shopping on
a limited budget, snack foods for children and more.
In additiion, participants can be linked to other important resources
offered by the health department such as Lamaze, breastfeeding support,
immunizations, a diabetes program, developmental screening, and more. Participants
can also learn about the help provided by other social service agencies,
community agencies, and health care professionals including physicians and
dentists.
